At Camp Manitowa our summer camp near St. Louis in Southern Illinois strive to provide campers an environment that fosters all the skills parents want their kids to develop early on in life. Our Rend Lake camp is a non-religions program that serves campers 2nd to 9th-grade. Kids gain independence, build self-esteem, and learn about cooperation and problem-solving, all while making new, lifelong friends. We offer a small community for campers so that they feel like they are part of the Manitowa family. By offering structured free choice activities, we encourage kids to feel a sense of belonging and control over their experience, which leaves them feeling empowered and able to learn and grow. Get ready for an intensive workshop to learn skills in writing fiction from an award-winning author. There will be storytelling games, flash-fiction prompts, detailed writing skills sessions, and discussions about writing. In this camp you will join other writers in creating a story with moving descriptions, memorable characters, and an ending that leaves your readers wanting more. Adopt your own puppy!!! That's right, each camper will go home on Friday with a NEW PUPPY *stuffy*! In this crowd favorite camp, we'll spend the week making sure your new playmate has a cozy puppy blanket, leash and collar, toys to play with, and of course a water and food bowl.

Stay salty this summer in this field-based science camp! Our weekly outdoor nature camps offer a unique opportunity for kids and teens! We have something for everyone, with Weekly Camp Themes for ages 5-6 or ages 7-12, and a Junior Counselor Program for ages 13-17. A session for campers runs for one week from 9am-3pm Monday to Friday. Junior Counselor sessions run for two weeks from 8:30am-3:30pm Monday to Friday. You have complete control over the design of this video game and will create your own characters and environments. Design objects that you can pick up to help your avatar and design obstacles to increase the difficulty of the game. The Summer Finishing camp focuses on an area most players love to participate in but is sometimes the least addressed technical area of the game. Whether you are a striker, midfielder, or defender, this camp will help improve your ability to score goals!

Attention! Builders wanted! Get ready to unleash your electric side in this hands-on camp about engineering designs. Design and build different models using various types of electronics and contraptions. Experiment with LEDs, potentiometers, photoelectric, multiple sensors, infrared, connectors, tilts, motors all compatible with Lego block designs! You will enjoy building and experimenting with windmills, energy saver lights, impact drills, Tilt-sensor lifter, walking insects, and more.

Caterpillar’s Kitchen is a playful and engaging group designed to help children build confidence and familiarity with new foods through stories, exploration, and creative activities. Each week, we read a picture book or story featuring food, then bring the story to life through hands-on interactions, crafts, and sensory-based food exploration.

Practice using tools like levers, cams, gears and pulleys to build multiple models. Use your model to simulate real-life machines such as sweeping machines, windmills, and racing cars to aid in your exploration. You will have the opportunity to build your own designs as well.

The hills are alive at Stagebugz this summer! Join Maria, the Von Trapp family, and the Nonnberg Abbey nuns for days full of your favorite things: singing, acting, dancing, games, friends, and more. Our Mainstage Program is designed to give students from every background and experience level a taste of all things theatre by moving at their own pace and exposing them to all the various elements of putting on a production.

Unleash your inner fashion designer! Campers will create their own fashion design kits for a 9" mannequin to test and wear, including fabulous fabrics, pins, velcro, and plenty of accessories. We'll explore how to plan and design pieces, as well as create functional wearable art pieces for ourselves like scrunchies and iron on patches to add to your favorite jacket, jeans, or backpack.

Each day, campers will focus on a particular area of the Farm, learning how to care for animals, plant seeds, and be stewards of the land. Animal interactions including engaging and working with sheep, goats, chickens, rabbits, donkey and miniature horses. Campers will get their hands in the dirty while gardening in soil and then travel to the STEM Station to do hand on experiments and learn all about the science and technology that keep farms running. Campers will stay active and learn teamwork while participating in games and challenges that help reinforce each days lessons. Each week of camp includes a TUF Camp t-shirt.

Make monotypes and monoprints with mixed media using mylar, styrofoam, and non-toxic inks. Drypoint, relief printing, and trace monotype will be explored. This is a good intro to the various techniques of printmaking. All supplies are included in the materials fee and will be provided at ASLD. Instructed by Joe Higgins.
