Join us for clay camp, where kids learn the basics of ceramics hand-building. Campers will experiment with low-fire clay and discover ways to build functional pottery as well as creative sculpture — monsters and mugs, nature-inspired works, zoo creatures, and anything they dream up. Each day, we spend most of the time learning techniques and creating, with a quick break in the middle for snacks, outdoor activities, and games.

In this fun and safe camp, young learners will learn basic woodworking skills while crafting their own unique projects. Because these camps require a higher level of focus and dexterity, they’re only for the older kiddos, but don’t worry, we cover safety first.

This exciting new camp is available to all skill levels and is a great introduction to several metalworking skills. Over the week, students will learn the basics of cold metalworking with hand tools, as well as forging with hot metal and even some welding! Don’t worry, our instructors will be sure to cover safety too. But due the higher level of focus and dexterity needed, these camps are only available to preteens and teens.

At Camp Manitowa our summer camp near St. Louis in Southern Illinois strive to provide campers an environment that fosters all the skills parents want their kids to develop early on in life. Our Rend Lake camp is a non-religions program that serves campers 2nd to 9th-grade. Kids gain independence, build self-esteem, and learn about cooperation and problem-solving, all while making new, lifelong friends. We offer a small community for campers so that they feel like they are part of the Manitowa family. By offering structured free choice activities, we encourage kids to feel a sense of belonging and control over their experience, which leaves them feeling empowered and able to learn and grow. The purpose of this live ONLINE course is to spark pre-teen/early teenage students' interest in reading classic books and to teach them to engage in Socratic discussion about themes, characters, plot, etc. We will also focus on history related to the stories. Our summer 2025 readings are selections from Homer’s The Iliad and The Odyssey. The cost is $150 for 22.5 hours of instruction June 16-Aug. 13, 2025.

Our weekly outdoor nature camps offer a unique opportunity for kids and teens! We have something for everyone, with Weekly Camp Themes for ages 5-6 or ages 7-12, and a Junior Counselor Program for ages 13-17. A session for campers runs for one week from 9am-3pm Monday to Friday. Junior Counselor sessions run for two weeks from 8:30am-3:30pm Monday to Friday. This entirely outdoor camp has plenty of mud, bugs, creek time, sunshine, and adventure!

ASLD Summer Camp- Building Clay 2 Ways (Ages 14-17)

Explore the concept of identity as it relates to themselves and their part in their environment and come up with a design. This design shall be applied to a functional personal item (cup, bowl or both) or built sculpture. To build this vessel, students will learn coil, slab and pinch methods and one or all methods in combination. This vessel shall then be built in the second week using airdry clay with a cold finish using acrylic paints. Materials provided. Instructed by Sheila Mungai.

The Urban Farm
Story Book Farm is a magical place for young children to explore and learn about farm animals and plants. Each day, campers experience a different part of the farm, like the cheerful poultry area or the calm cows, goats, sheep, and horses. They also discover the important role of pollinators and learn hands-on about composting and gardening. The farm's educators make learning fun by incorporating music, art, STEM projects, and animal interactions into each day's activities. Each week of camp includes a TUF Camp t-shirt.

In this live online course, we improve our print and cursive handwriting through reading and writing about people and events from American history as well as drawing them. Why drawing?
