The Golden Spike Monument (www.spike150.org) is an inspiring 43-foot-tall golden spike created to reflect on the achievement of building America’s first transcontinental railroad and the untold stories of the diverse railroad workers who made it possible. Artist Douwe Blumberg and his team spent 28 months creating the Monument in his studio in rural Kentucky, and now the massive monument is traveling to its installation site in Brigham City, Utah and making whistle stops along the way—including at the Colorado Railroad Museum!
Join us on Tuesday, October 17, 2023 for a unique opportunity to experience the Monument while on tour, and learn about the history of America’s first transcontinental railroad. Enjoy viewing of the monument, artist presentations, a discussion about Native American perspectives on the railroad, children’s storytelling and craft activity, plus rides aboard the Museum’s unique “Galloping Goose” motorized railcar No. 7. Free Admission. Museum grounds open 9 a.m.-5 p.m., all activities this day place between 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. Event details: www.coloradorailroadmuseum.org.
