The 10th Annual Run for the Ring 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run | Kids Out and About Denver

The 10th Annual Run for the Ring 5K Run/Walk and Kids Fun Run

*The event has already taken place on this date: Sat, 08/03/2024
Starting and finishing at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes (BDC), race entry for the 5K and the Kids Zone/Fun Run opens May 16, 2024. Last year, we had over 430 runners, walkers, and kids, and this year’s race is expected to be even bigger as we celebrate 10 years of running for the brass ring – the cure for diabetes.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

All proceeds from the event support the efforts and programs of The Guild of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation (CDF), whose mission is to improve the health and well-being of BDC patients living with type 1 diabetes and their families through education, support, advocacy, and research.

On race day, registration begins at 7:00 a.m. at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes on the CU Anschutz Medical Campus at 1775 Aurora Court, Aurora, Colorado, 80045. The 5K Run/Walk is a professionally timed race on a USATF-certified course that starts at 8:00 a.m. and culminates with a foam party at the finish line.

Kids between the ages of two and ten can also participate in the Kids Fun Run, zooming around the Kids Zone while loved ones cheer, high-five, and spray them with squirt guns. Children can play in bounce houses, mazes, and other fun outdoor activities within the Kids Zone starting at 8:00 a.m. The Kids Fun Run starts immediately after the 5K Awards Ceremony.

Registration for the 5K Run/Walk and Fun Run includes breakfast bites, a timing chip (5K only), a race bib, entrance to the Exhibitor Expo, and a Run for the Ring performance t-shirt. Winners from each age group will be awarded a medal during an awards ceremony following the 5K. Participants must register by July 13, 2024, to guarantee a t-shirt.

Run for the Ring is fun for the whole family and invites participants to make a difference for people with type 1 diabetes. Registrants can create a race team and fundraising page to enjoy race day with more family, friends, and co-workers while raising awareness and supporting type 1 heroes through fundraising. Teams are encouraged to make up fun team names, decorate t-shirts, or wear costumes on race day to broadcast their commitment to finding a cure.

Those who want to contribute but aren’t able to attend the event can sign up with Sleep-In Registration or donate to the cause on the registration site.

Katie Grassby and Angie Anderson are the co-chairs of this year's event. The media partners are 5280 Magazine, CBS Colorado, Colorado Expression, and KBCO.

The “brass ring” symbolizes the overarching goal of the Children’s Diabetes Foundation and the Barbara Davis Center: to find a cure for type 1 diabetes. The Guild is CDF's auxiliary volunteer group with more than 300 dedicated members. Since its inception, it has contributed over $2 million to the BDC.
