Drawing + Painting: Teens
Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.
This Teens group is intended for those that have taken this course multiple times, or already draw/paint their own ideas regularly at home (not just replicating a school art project or how-to-draw video). If this is your child's first time taking Drawing+Painting at artSPARK, please consider joining our 5th-8th grade group on Wednesday nights first. If you are unsure if this is a good fit for your teen, please email info@artsparkcreative.com.
For kids who LOVE drawing and/or painting and want to think and work like real artists using their own ideas, while advancing with techniques and concepts.
Enroll your child in this 12-session course and dive into the possibilities with drawing and painting. Explore, discover, and go further with your practice in this choice-based course. Make YOUR ideas happen! Everyone will have the opportunity to choose a matted frame for a finished piece or a canvas.
Artwork created will not be cookie cutter or almost identical to someone else. Because we focus on the entire artistic process from exploring and planning to refining and reflecting, along with the child as an individual, the quantity of work and what is made will depend on how your child likes to work. Kids that need more time to explore and experiment, may go home with more practice work than someone who is ready to invest a lot of time into making a more finished piece or who works slowly with lots of detail and refinement.
Your child will make work that is exciting and meaningful to them. We teach techniques and concepts, but if your teen is not quite ready to implement something, or is not interested, we do not force them to put it into practice. Observation is a great learning tool too, and every artist runs into emotional blocks from time to time.
Once we get to know your teen, we meet them at their level and challenge them when they are ready. There is lots of small group and 1:1 instruction during studio times.
We will end the semester on the last class day with an in-person display to showcase the work done throughout the semester. Families are welcome to come in the studio the last 15 min of the last class day for an Artist's Celebration of all of the displays.
