Drawing + Painting: 3rd-6th grade | Kids Out and About Denver

Drawing + Painting: 3rd-6th grade

*The event has already taken place on this date: Wed, 01/25/2023
A 12-week course designed to dive into the possibilities with a variety of drawing and painting materials. Kids are allowed and encouraged to create with subject matter and ideas that are important to them. We inspire, teach skills and techniques, and guide them through the artistic process.

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Beginning in 2023 we are bringing back our 12-week model for 3rd-8th grade. (1st-4th grade Drawing + Painting and Maker Club will continue as a 6-week option for those that want a shorter course). In order to dive into the possibilities with drawing and painting, guide kids to discover their own style, advance in skills, and fully practice the whole artistic process, we have found that a 12-week course is most beneficial.

For kids who LOVE making pictures and want to think and work like real artists using their own ideas while advancing with techniques and concepts. Acrylic, Tempera, Sketch Pencils, Alcohol Ink Markers, Watercolor, Chalk Pastel, Oil Pastel, Colored Pencils. Explore, discover, and go further with your practice in this choice-based course. Make YOUR ideas happen!

Artwork created will not be cookie cutter or almost identical to someone else. Because we focus on the entire artistic process from exploring and planning to refining and reflecting, along with the child as an individual, the quantity of work and what is made will depend on how your child likes to work. Kids that need more time to explore and experiment, may go home with more practice work than someone who is ready to invest a lot of time into making a more finished piece or who works slowly with lots of detail and refinement. Your child will make work that is exciting and meaningful to them. We teach techniques and concepts, but if your child is not quite ready to implement something, or is not interested, we do not force them to put it into practice. Observation is a great learning tool too, and every artist runs into emotional blocks from time to time. We also work on building confidence, getting over fears, taking risks to grow, and problem solving because mistakes are ok and necessary. Once we get to know your child, we meet them at their level and challenge them when they are ready.

If your child likes using a sketchbook, please bring one. Any size or type is fine. Loose paper for sketching and idea generation will be provided in the studio. We also have 6x9" 70 page sketchbooks in the studio for $5+tax.

artSPARK Online Art Show is a part of this program! Kids in our 3rd-6th grade, 5th-8th grade, and 6th-8th grade groups will have an opportunity and a choice to submit a piece in our online show.
