Bluff Lake Summer Camp 2023 | Kids Out and About Denver

Bluff Lake Summer Camp 2023

*The event has already taken place on this date: Fri, 08/18/2023
Our weekly outdoor nature camps offer a unique opportunity for kids and teens! We have something for everyone ages 5-6, ages 7-12, and a Junior Counselor Program for ages 13-17. All camps run for one week each from 9am-3pm Monday to Friday. These camps are for every kid or teen with some energy to play, grow, and build a strong future for themselves and the planet!

Please help us keep this calendar up to date! If this activity is sold out, canceled, or otherwise needs alteration, email mindy@kidsoutandabout.com so we can update it immediately. If you have a question about the activity itself, please contact the organization administrator listed below.

Listed below are our 2023 camp themes!

Nature Science (Ages 5-6 and 7-12)

Discover what nature has to teach us by exploring the sun, water, plants, and animals, using field tools like binoculars, magnifying glasses, and microscopes. Learn through fun outdoor experiments, such as dissecting an owl pellet and making “elephant toothpaste,” and conquer building challenges like a water-cleaning invention and solar oven s’mores. Animal encounters and creek time are also included!

Land and Life (Ages 5-6 and 7-12)

Discover how humans and nature have depended on each other over time. Begin with Native American storytelling, then enjoy cowboy and rancher-themed activities like panning for gold during creek exploration time, throwing a lasso, and a trip to The Urban Farm with live animals. Explore today’s plant and animal species, learn about the challenges Bluff Lake faces, and help protect nature for future generations to enjoy!

Colorado Life Zones - ANIMALS ANIMALS ANIMALS (Ages 5-6 and 7-12)

Explore a different Colorado ecosystem every day during this camp focused on the plants and animals that call our state home. Campers will learn about the plains, foothills, rivers, and mountains that shape our state and what special wildlife lives in each of those landscapes. Activities will include topography and map reading, animal signs and plant hikes, building beaver dams, and plenty of active predator/prey games.

Outdoor Survival (Ages 5-6 and 7-12)

Gain confidence in exploring and enjoying the natural world! Nature hikes and games will let you practice outdoor preparedness, using binoculars, first aid, shelter-building, and signaling. Art projects will include paracord survival bracelets that the students take home. Learn to identify different animal species and the signs they leave behind. Live animal encounters and creek exploration are also included!

Best of Bluff Lake (Ages 5-6 and 7-12)

Have a week full of wild adventures, each chosen from campers’ favorites across the summer. Enjoy games and activities from Nature Science on Monday, Land and Life on Tuesday, Colorado Life Zones on Wednesday, Outdoor Survival on Thursday, and campers’ choice on Friday. You are sure to enjoy a wide variety of hikes, artwork, live animal encounters, and creek exploration!

Junior Counselor Program (Ages 13-17)

Work with adult counselors through the week as you gain experience, practice leadership, learn outdoor skills, bond with kids, meet other Junior Counselors, and have a great time! Submit your application, then be invited to register for one or more weeks (camp fees are discounted due to your valuable help). This year, specific dates will be available on a first come, first served basis as we receive and approve applications.

What Does a Day in the Life of Your Camper Look Like at Bluff Lake?

Each week of camp will be unique depending on the selected theme. However, each week is filled with activities, crafts, games, running, laughing, building, experimenting, and learning. In the image above you can see a sample schedule from a day at camp.
