Class Requirements

  • Dress for mess!

What you'll learn

  • Develop Craft (Learning to use tools and care for materials): Students will advance their skills in using various artistic tools, such as brushes and sculpting materials. They’ll learn techniques in paint application, stamping, and molding, enhancing their precision and ability to work with diverse media.
  • Engage & Persist (Solving problems and developing focus): As they interact with a variety of materials and face creative challenges, students will learn to engage deeply, ask critical questions, and persist through difficulties, fostering resilience and a problem-solving mindset.
  • Envision (Imagining possibilities before creating): Students will practice envisioning the layout and potential outcomes of their projects, such as planning the arrangement of string in art pieces. This habit encourages foresight and the ability to plan complex projects.
  • Express (Conveying ideas and emotions through artistic creation): Students will explore self-expression by selecting subjects and materials that resonate with their personal experiences and feelings about autumn, learning to communicate ideas and emotions effectively through art.
  • Observe (Developing a deeper understanding through observation): By closely observing details in nature, such as the veins of leaves or the texture of gourd skins, students will enhance their observational skills, which are critical for both art and scientific inquiries.
  • Reflect (Thinking about and discussing one’s work and processes): Students will be encouraged to reflect on their artwork and the creative process, discussing what they learned, what they enjoyed, and what they might change in future projects. This reflection helps build self-awareness and critical thinking skills, enabling them to evaluate their own work and the work of others constructively.
  • Stretch & Explore (Experimenting and taking risks): Encouraging students to experiment with different artistic methods and materials without fear of mistakes will help them learn to innovate and adapt creatively, skills that are valuable in all areas of learning.
