Unlock your child’s creativity with recycled materials you already have around the house! Based on the interactive DIY project from his children's book ScrapKins: Junk Re-Thunk, author Brian Yanish will guide students through a step-by-step to design and build their very own Box Puppet character. You’ll never look at “junk” that same way again!

Please note: The class is intended for ages 6 through 12. In the drop down menu, you can select to purchase a signed copy of Brian Yanish's book ScrapKins: Junk Re-Thunk. (This book is not required for the class.)

Supplies Needed:
- 1 empty tissue box or shoe box
- 1 piece of thin cardboard (from any cardboard box)
- colored construction paper or colored scrap paper
- strong tape (masking tape or packing tape works best)
- scissors
- markers or crayons or colored pencils
- school or craft glue

This class is appropriate for all ages and is geared toward ages 6 - 12 years.

About the teacher:
Brian Yanish is an author, illustrator, designer, and maker. His books include Shark and Bot (Random House 2020), Pirate Chicken: All Hens on Deck (Sourcebooks 2019), ScrapKins: Junk Re-Thunk (Ottaviano/Holt 2016) and the forthcoming Shark and Bot: Sleepaway Champs (RH, June 2021). He has worked for Jim Henson Productions, trained as a special effects moldmaker, written and performed comedy, and designed educational software, apparel and toys. He is the creator of ScrapKins, a recycled arts program that inspires kids to see the creative potential in everyday junk. Brian has presented workshops at schools and institutions across the country and even appeared on Sesame Street. You can follow him on Instagram!
