BUFFALO BILL AND LOUISA CODY PRESENT …

In this special series of public programs, historic interpreters Javan and Susan Ridge have created 20-minute educational presentations in the personas of Buffalo Bill, his wife Louisa, and sometimes his sister, Helen. These outdoor performances will be free-of-charge, not requiring museum admission.

The life of a scout on the plains was not a constant search for Indians. Buffalo Bill explains the life of a scout and how that life prepared him to be the great showman he would later become.

2 pm & 3 pm: Living in an Army Fort: A Woman's Perspective

Many would say that an Army Fort on the plains was no place for a woman. Heleln Coddy Wetmore, Bill Cody's sister, tells of the life at Fort McPherson, socializing with officers' wives, visiting dignitaries, and Ooooohhhh yes ... all of those young soldier!

1:30 pm & 2:30 pm: Taking the Wild West to London

Buffalo Bill recounts the long, often rough, voyage across the ocean with seasickness so profound the Indians were singing their death song! He will tell of how te English cultural differences almost led to bankruptcy and describe a special performance for Queen Victoria and how she received the Americans.

2 pm & 3 pm:  A Wife's Reflection: Cody's Tragic Final Years

Bill's wife, Louisa, will take you through the last years of Buffalo Bill's life.  She will tell of the many business ventures that became a financial burden just as audiences and the popularity of the Wild West were were waning.  Mounting debt and poor choices kept him on the show trail long after his physical ability was up to the task. Louisa tells of the personal impact and the tragic end to a great man who will always be a great symbol of the Old West.
