WEEK 1
6/4/18 - 6/8/18
Hand Building with Slabs
Instructor: Ashley Fulton
During this week, each student will create a self-portrait sketch including a head, neck, body, arms, legs and feet. These pieces will then be cut out of clay slabs. Once the pieces are fired, the body parts will be colored and assembled using wire. These clay self-portraits can then be hung at home as a wall piece. Students will also explore using silkscreens and Designer Liner "glaze pens" to add images to the flat surface of a mug and plate that they make. These will be glazed so that they are food-safe, microwaveable, and dishwasher-safe.

WEEK 2
6/11/18 - 6/15/18
Native American-Inspired Clay Creations
Instructor: Ashley Fulton
Students will use a coil-building method to create a mug, then use black slip to decorate the pot using geometric patterns in the style of the Ancestral Puebloans. Students will explore making sculptural work by creating clay ocarinas inspired by the Mayans. After looking at images of masks from various Native American cultures, students will create a clay mask of their own design.

Artist A Day
Instructor: Roy Annenberg
uring this exciting week of Art Camp, kids will get to be a different artist for each day! They will learn about the life of the artist and how this affected the way their artwork looks. The Pop Art of Roy Lichtenstein will inspire our giant-sized cartoon explosion drawings as if they came right out of a comic book! The soft watercolor paintings of Color Field artist Helen Frankenthaler will be the inspiration for fun free flowing paintings. Create fun optical illusions collages in a lot of different ways as we explore Op Art by Victor Vasarley. Learn how to make huge slices of pies and cakes as the dessert paintings of Wayne Thiebaud capture our minds. Lastly, the silly exaggerated portraits of Amedeo Modigliani will help us create our own silly exaggerated people. Collage, Paint, Draw, and Sculpt your way through a week of fun!l.

Week 6

Kinetic Art - Get Your Art Moving!
Instructor: Mike Carroll
Kinetic Art is back this summer! We will be exploring several different forms of art that moves. Everything from mobiles, with fun dangling things, to wire sculpture with moving parts. Both physical balance and visual balance are key factors with this kind of art. These kinds of sculptures move on their own and sometimes move with the help of the artist, [like a toy!]. Lots of fun if you like to build things! Additional materials provided by NREL. (National Renewable Energy Laboratory)
